Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is considered by many to be the modern form of slavery. Thousands of people each year are sold into slavery for various reasons all across the world.

While human trafficking occurs all around the world in many different forms, it shares commonalities across all platforms. According to Hepburn and Simon, “Despite nation-specific differences, the characteristics of human trafficking are remarkably similar worldwide. Such common characteristics are fraudulent recruitment, exorbitant travel and recruitment fees, the withholding of the victim’s visas and other identifying documentation, controlling and limiting the victim or his/her family, and physically harming the victim.”  Human trafficking is a horrible and persistent problem that affects millions across the entire world. Traffickers prey on the less fortunate, specifically women and children, and abuse them to make a profit.  Victims are taken advantage of, and are left with both horrific physical and mental scars that will never leave them. Human trafficking is an atrocity that needs to be addressed and removed from society.
